A key ingredient for shaping a brand is the set of values that define the brand personality, which are essential for sustaining a bond with customers. Taylor Swift is today the world’s biggest pop star, not only A because of her musical accomplishments but also due to her values and genuine rapport with such a wide range of different age groups and diverse ethnic and gender factions. Yet extreme MAGA conservatives are creating false conspiracy stories to warp Swifts wholesome, popular brand image to ultimately advance their own political motives.
The MAGA brand essence is different from Taylor Swift’s. While the foundation of the Swift brand consists of love, humility and credible positive vibes, the MAGA cult is driven by feelings of discontent and rage, influenced by Trump’s egotistical behavior (e.g. “don’t tell me what to do…”) and relentless pattern of exaggerating and lying. Extremism breeds extreme behavior and a rigid set of beliefs fueled by powerful emotions. The Taylor Swift brand is anything but extreme. She is perceived by most everyone as a classic all American hero, even recognized by Time magazine in December as Person of the Year.
Examples of Falsehoods and Conspiracy Theories
The accusations of Taylor Swift are so ridiculous that they generated an inordinate influx of media publicity which shocked most “Swifties”, especially since they coincided with the Kansas City Chief Super Bowl victory and her relationship with their tight end, Travis Kelce:
- Taylor Swift is secret agent of the Pentagon
- She is manipulating her fan base to endorse Biden’s re-election
- Swift and Kelce are a contrived couple designed to support the NFL, or Covid vaccines, or Democrats.
- Fox News host Jesse Watters suggested Swift was a “Defense Department asset engaging in psychological warfare”.
- The pro Trump presidential candidate, Vivek Ramaswamy said: “wondered if there’s a major presidential endorsement coming from an artificially culturally propped-up couple this fall”.
- Swift’s popularity is an outcome of an “op” or a ”psyop” engineered by the deep state in order to benefit Joe Biden.
The Real Values of Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift has indeed expressed her position on several controversial social issues which have inflamed hatred and threats from many conservatives. In 2018 she stated: “I always have cast my vote on which candidate will protect and fight for human rights … I believe in the fight for L.G.B.T.Q. rights, and that any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender is WRONG. I believe that the systemic racism we still see in this country towards people of color is terrifying, sickening and prevalent.” It shouldn’t be surprising that most Gen Z and Y kids share these views which have contributed to her popularity.
Swift’s notoriety is genuine. Not only is she the first artist to have won four Grammy Awards for best album, but she has also won 324 other awards and 20 colleges offer courses about her musical talents, including Harvard, Stanford and Berkeley. Her personal values are also exemplified by her public donations and economic contributions:
- Swift has donated massive amounts of money to local food banks in every city she has performed – $30 million in 2023, plus $50 million to truckers and $20 million for animals
- Recently she gave $100,000 to the family of Lisa Lopez-Galvin who was killed in the recent shooting at the KC Chief celebration
- She has brought in over $5 billion in consumer spending which has boosted local economies.
The brand image of this cultural icon is so well entrenched that MAGA extremists should be more worried about how their outrageous claims will tarnish their own credibility and reputation.
